What Our Guests Say

★★★★★

We woke up to woodpeckers tapping on the beech tree next to our treehouse. The hot tub at canopy level was surreal — just us and the stars through the branches. Already rebooked for October.

Our two boys didn't ask for a screen once in three days. They spent every morning watching squirrels from the treehouse deck and every afternoon in the forest pool. Exactly the reset we needed.

You can tell everything was built by someone who genuinely loves these woods. The craftsmanship in the treehouse, the thought behind every detail — it felt like staying inside a living thing.

Treehouse Stays and Forest Retreats on Dartmoor

Four distinct ways to disappear into the Dartmoor canopy. Every stay is hand-built, off-grid in spirit, and completely private.

Treehouse Stays

Our signature experience. Sleep twenty feet up in ancient oak and beech trees in a hand-built timber treehouse with panoramic forest views, a private canopy-level hot tub, and dawn light filtering through the leaves. Built from sustainably sourced Dartmoor timber.

Woodland Pods

Tucked into the forest floor beneath a cathedral of beech and oak. Our insulated woodland pods are warm, minimal, and grounded — with wood-burning stoves, sheepskin throws, and wide glass fronts that frame the trees like living paintings. Perfect for couples seeking stillness.

Private Forest Retreats

For those who want complete seclusion. Our private forest retreats are set deep within our 40-acre woodland with no neighbours, no roads, and no interruptions. Each retreat includes a treehouse or pod, its own fire pit clearing, a private woodland trail, and full provisions delivered to your door.

Every Canopy Hideaways guest has exclusive access to our spring-fed forest pool — a natural swimming spot fed by clean Dartmoor water and surrounded by moss-covered granite and ancient trees. Cold, clear, and completely private. Towels and robes provided at the poolside shelter.

About us

Built by Hand in the Dartmoor Canopy

Canopy Hideaways began with a single platform in a 200-year-old oak tree and a stubborn belief that the best places to sleep are the ones that make you forget you're anywhere at all. Every treehouse on our 40-acre woodland was built by hand from sustainably sourced timber, designed to sit lightly in the canopy and leave the forest exactly as we found it.

We're the only treehouse accommodation on Dartmoor, and we built it that way on purpose. Our hot tubs are suspended between the trees. Our forest pool is fed by a natural spring. Our guests tell us it feels like a fairytale — and we take that as the highest compliment.

This isn't glamping with a marketing budget. It's a real place, built by real hands, in a real forest. We live on site, we know every tree by name, and we believe the best thing technology can do for you is disappear for a few days.

Common questions

Everything You Need to Know Before You Stay

Each treehouse sits approximately 20 feet up in the canopy. They're accessed via sturdy timber staircases with handrails no ladders or rope bridges. The platforms are engineered to be completely stable and safe for families with children.

Yes. Our cedar hot tubs are suspended on reinforced platforms between the trees at canopy level. You soak surrounded by branches and open sky. They're wood-fired, filled fresh for each guest, and kept at temperature throughout your stay.

The forest pool is a natural spring-fed swimming spot on our private land, roughly 8 metres across and 2 metres at its deepest point. The water is tested regularly and is cold year-round typically 10-14°C in summer. We provide towels and robes at the poolside shelter. Children must be supervised.

All our treehouses and pods have solar-powered lighting, USB charging points, and running water heated by wood-burning stoves. There's no mains electricity, no Wi-Fi, and no television by design.

Absolutely. Our treehouse stays and private forest retreats are suitable for families with children aged 5 and over. The woodland pods are designed as couples' retreats. We provide child-safe railings and gates on all elevated platforms.

Warm layers, waterproof boots, and a torch though we provide lanterns at each hideaway. We supply all bedding, towels, firewood, and basic provisions including locally roasted coffee, Dartmoor butter, and fresh bread delivered to your door each morning.

We're located on private woodland near Dartmoor, Devon. Full directions including the forest gate postcode are sent once your booking is confirmed. The last mile is on an unpaved forest track a car with reasonable ground clearance is recommended.

Full refund if you cancel more than 14 days before arrival. 50% refund for cancellations 7-14 days before. Less than 7 days we can't refund but we'll always try to rebook you for alternative dates.

We fell asleep to owls and woke up inside a cloud. Three days without a screen and we've never felt more alive.
